But he [Stephen], full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7:55-56 (Context: Acts 7:1-60)
The religious leaders were comfortable with their lives but Stephen was disrupting everything. He was so alien to the world they loved, like a blinding light in a dark room. Those in the world get their perspective from looking around at peers, or back at the past, or forward to some achievement, or inward at feelings. Those in Christ get their perspective from looking up, no matter what it costs.
- What perspective fuels my desires, disappointments, and ambitions?
- Who in my life needs to hear about what they would see if they looked up to Christ?
