[Peter said] “Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.” Acts 15:10-11 (Context: Acts 15:1-35)
How do you expect a believer to behave? When we fear the Lord we rightly look to Scripture for instruction on how to please Him. Some things are clear, like honoring the marriage bed. Some things are respectful, like bringing kosher food to a congregation with devout Jews. Some things are not spelled out, like how to Sabbath, how long a pair of shorts should be, how money should be spent, or which politicians to vote for. The Holy Spirit helps us navigate these questions but, when it comes to what we expect of others, we must be careful not to test God by replacing His grace with our laws.
