He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8-9 (Context: Acts 1:1-11)
Last year the first snow came in October. My 4-year old daughter woke up, looked at the snow out the window and asked, “So, is Christmas tomorrow or the day after?” The disciples were anticipating the Big Day when the Son of David would again rule from Jerusalem. When they saw the risen Christ they naturally assumed the Big Day was imminent. They were on the right track, but they needed some coaching about the seasons. ‘Tis the season for witnessing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
- It’s easy to think of life like a car trip. What circumstances or events tempt me to ask, “Are we there yet?”
- Am I living in the Spirit of this witnessing season?
