Weekly Schedule
VBS is almost here! Now is the time to register your children. We also need many of you to volunteer and help make VBS a reality this year. For all volunteers, we have new VBS t-shirts—even if you have one from a previous year, this year’s design is different. Be sure to grab one from the foyer. Visit bethanycentral.org/vbs to register your kids or to volunteer.
We are starting the second part of the book of Mark this week. To help you engage with the series we’ve created a new notebook for sermon notes, group discussion, and prayer requests. You can pick up a copy on your way into the sanctuary or get a digital version at bethanycentral.org/notebook.
The Table (for women) and The Anvil (for men) are small gatherings designed to help you build community and share life together. These are small group gatherings hosted by people from our church, happening at various times and locations to fit your schedule. Each gathering is unique. Whether you’re eating a meal together or enjoying a fun activity together, it’s a chance to meet new people and enjoy genuine fellowship. Visit bethanycentral.org/gatherings to browse all available gatherings and sign up!
Announcements
We are excited to be voting new members into Bethany in two weeks. Watch next week’s bulletin for details on whom you can be encouraging and welcoming into our church family.
Join us Wednesday nights this summer as we dive into the Book of Ecclesiastes in our new men’s Bible study, Life Under the Sun. Together, we’ll wrestle with life’s biggest questions—meaning, purpose, justice, and joy—and discover how true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord. Sign up using your myBethany or go to bethanycentral.org/ecclstudy.
Throughout the year, Bethany offers ongoing and short-term Ladies’ Bible Studies that meet at various times throughout the week. We have morning, afternoon, and evening classes. There are several options to study either Jesus in the Psalms or Proverbs 3:5-6 this summer!
Our students are at The Uplands for Camp Waypoint this weekend. Please join us in prayer for them and their leaders. Pray that God would unite our students in love for God and one another. Pray that God would use the teaching of the word from Pastor Ritch to draw the students to a closer relationship with Jesus.
The New Creations Adult Bible Fellowship, that meets in room 816, will be starting a new series soon. The series will go through the book of Genesis, and everyone is invited to join.
All ladies are invited to attend a baby shower for Jenni Anderson at Bethany. Jenni and Tavish are expecting a baby boy in August. They are registered at babylist.com.
Icebreaker: Can you think of a time when you wished you could stay in a moment forever? What was happening? Who were you with? What made that exact moment so special?
Discussion 1: Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James, and John, and they see Him in His glory alongside Moses and Elijah. Why do you think Jesus gave this incredible view of His glory to these three disciples at this moment? How would this experience have shaped their understanding of who He really is?
Application 1: The disciples experienced a powerful moment of seeing Jesus’s true glory. How can you intentionally create space to encounter Jesus through prayer, worship, or reflecting on His Word? Read 2 Corinthians 3:16-18. How does our view of Jesus transform us?
Discussion 2: Peter wants to build tents and stay on the mountain, but God interrupts, saying, “This is my beloved Son; listen to Him.” What do you think was going through Peter’s mind when he suggested that? Why do you think we as humans have a desire to hold onto spiritual experiences instead of focusing on obedience in the moment?
Application 2: It’s easy to always want the “mountaintop moments” of faith, but the Christian walk is marked by just as many valleys as mountaintops. How can we be content and thankful to God for the mountains and the valleys all the same? How does God use both in our spiritual formation?
Discussion 3: After the Transfiguration, the disciples ask about Elijah coming first. Jesus explains that Elijah has already come (referring to John the Baptist). Read Jesus’s answer in v12-13. How does their confusion about Elijah also show their misunderstanding about the coming Messiah? How was Jesus trying to change their view of what the Messiah had come to do?
Application 3: Sometimes, like the disciples, we have certain expectations of how God should work. Are there particular ways God works that make it harder for you to trust Him? What are some personal experiences that you have in this area?
