1. Does the Bible ever describe what Samson looked like? What does this teach us?

No, the Bible never talks about what Samson looked like. It’s possible that he looked just like a normal person. This would show that Samson’s great feats of strength were from God’s Spirit and not from him.

2. What was the purpose of being a Nazarite? What three things was a Nazarite to stay away from?

A Nazarite was supposed to set themselves apart in service to God for a certain amount of time. This was a time where they would not have anything from the fruit of the vine, touch anything unclean, or have anything or anyone cut their hair. They were in service to God for however long they vowed. (See Num 6.)

3. What victories does Samson have? What mistakes does he make?

His Mistakes: He wants and marries a Philistine wife. He touches a dead Lion. He feasts at his wedding with fruit of the vine. He goes and kills people in anger, He has another woman named Delilah who he tells the secret of his strength.
His Victories: He killed a lion with his bare hands. He caught 300 foxes or jackals and sets the Philistine fields and cities on fire. He kills 1,000 of Israel’s enemies with a jawbone of a donkey. He carried Iron gates from Gaza to Hebron which was a very far walk. He did all of these things because the Spirit of the Lord came upon him.

4. After Samson told Delilah his secret and she cut his hair what happened to him? Was God with him? How did the Philistines make fun of him?

Delilah got someone to come in and cut Samson’s hair while he slept. But Samson did not realize that God had left him. How sad is that. Samson thought he could do whatever he wanted and God would always be with him. Samson was captured by the philistines and his eyes were cut out and they brought him out to make fun of him at their feast to their god.

5. What did Samson say before he died? What does this story teach us about God and about Christ?

Samson asked for God’s power one more time. He did this, not because God was being dishonored, but because he was angry and wanted vengeance on his enemies.
God was faithful to deliver his people from their enemies despite Samson’s many failures. To his credit, Samson believed God would deliver through him and he is an example of faith even in his many failures (Hebrews 11).
God was powerful to deliver through Samson. The Spirit of God came upon Samson every time. God’s power is greater than any other god.
God sent Christ and Christ is the great deliverer who was perfectly obedient to God. He dies and rose again and now he makes us perfect before him and sets us apart to serve him. We can dedicate ourselves to God because God has already made us holy in Jesus if we have trusted in him.
