Sunday Worship
Weekly Schedule
The class meets in Rm 813 in the adult wing. This one-session class features videos & class discussion. You’ll learn more about Bethany and discover the importance of membership and joining your local church. Sign up by going to bethanycentral.org/membership.
We’re bringing back our Fall Festival, a fun-filled community outreach event with games and activities, and a Story Wall designed to spark gospel conversations. Mark your calendar, invite friends and neighbors, and sign up to volunteer to help make the event possible. Go to bethanycentral.org/volunteer.
The outreach continues on Sunday as we welcome our community back for Gospel Sunday. Together we will worship and hear the good news of Jesus as the Gospel is shared.
Our monthly compassion offering collection is happening this week after each service. This isn’t part of our regular tithes—this is something special we do to meet real, practical needs within our own church community. You can contribute to the Compassion Offering by visiting bethanycentral.org/compassion or by giving to the Compassion Fund after the service this week.
Announcements
Our congratulations to Lucas & Gracie Cross on the birth of their daughter, Sadie Jo, on Friday, August 29th.
Our condolences to Dave & Brandi tucker on the death of Dave’s mother, Janet, on Monday, August 18th.
We’re collecting candy donations for this year’s Fall Festival! To help cut costs, we’re asking the congregation to provide individually packaged, peanut-free, non-chocolate candy. Collection bins will be located in the Children’s Wing (near the registration desk) and the Adult Wing. Please bring your donations by Sunday, September 21, so we’ll have time to purchase any remaining needs.
Join us this fall for the Men’s Bible Study as we explore the life of Abraham, seeing how God showed Himself faithful to Abraham and to each of us today. Come ready to engage, ask questions, and build connections with other men at Bethany as we seek to encourage one another and grow together in the faith.
Enjoy a time of worship, hear from God’s Word, and learn about the upcoming fall schedule for the group, followed by a delicious meal. The event is open to everyone, so we encourage you to invite a friend regardless of where they attend church. RSVP through your myBethany account or by calling the church office.
Our Good News Club at Ridgeview Elementary is starting up on Sept. 15th. This is a great opportunity for you to be part of a program designed to share the gospel with kids in a fun and loving environment! And they still need volunteers. If you sense God directing you toward this opportunity, reach out to Patti Falatko pif756@gmail.com.
Bring your latest project and enjoy a relaxed evening of creativity and connection in the Lakeside area. Whether you’re crafting, knitting, journaling, or anything else—come when you can and leave when you need to. For questions, contact Abby Pfeiffer at abby@bethanycentral.org.
All skill levels are welcome to meet for fellowship and exercise with the pickleball group in the gym. They meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 6:30 – 8:30pm.
Icebreaker: What was your dream job as a kid? What about that career excited you?
Discussion 1: Judas used a symbol of affection — a kiss — to betray Jesus. Why do you think this act of betrayal feels especially painful or personal? What does this moment teach us about the difference between outward appearance and inner loyalty?
Application 1: Sometimes we go through the motions of following Jesus, but our hearts are not fully surrendered. This week, how can you make sure your outward actions align with genuine love and loyalty to Christ?
Discussion 2: After the soldiers seized Jesus, the disciples abandoned Him. Why do you think they responded with fear? Even after Jesus had described what must happen to Him (multiple times) and prayed with him all night, why were the disciples still surprised?
Application 2: Fear and pressure can cause us to retreat from our faith. Is there a situation where you’re tempted to shrink back or stay silent about your faith? How can we prepare our hearts to stand with Jesus amid pressures from the world around us?
Discussion 3: Mark includes the unusual detail of a young man who runs away, leaving his garment behind. Who do you think the young man is? Why do you think Mark included that in the biblical narrative? What might this tell us about the Bible as a document?
