1. Why did David want to build a house for God?

David wanted to build a temple for God that was permanent. There was no more wondering with the Tabernacle, and David thought that God deserved a permanent Temple that would be greater and bigger than his house.

2. How did God answer David’s idea through Nathan the Prophet?

God told David that since the Tabernacle got to Jerusalem, God had not given any instructions for anyone to build him a permanent house. God answered David that it would be his son who would build a house or a temple for God. David wanted to build God a house; God said, “David, I will build a house (a dynasty) for you.

3. Which three covenants did God make before that will now be fulfilled in this covenant?

The Noahic Covenant, the Abrahamic Covenant, and the Mosaic Covenant. They would all find their fulfillment through this covenant. This is the covenant that will fulfill all the others.

4. What did God promise to David that would last forever in this Covenant?

God promised that he would establish David’s Kingdom forever, his steadfast love would never leave David’s Son, and David’s Son would be on the throne forever. Praise God all of these promises come true in Jesus!

5. How does Jesus show that he is the one who will fulfill this Covenant?

God is an eternal Father to Jesus the Son. God will establish the kingdom through Jesus forever. Jesus will always reign on the throne. Jesus will never sin and need discipline like Solomon. Jesus will always show his people steadfast love. Jesus will reign forever!
