- Who hardened Pharaoh’s heart? Is this confusing? Why or why not?
Both God and Pharaoh hardened Pharaoh’s heart. This is complex because it raises questions about free will and divine intervention. However, it’s clear that Pharaoh was responsible for his choices and actions while God used this situation to demonstrate His power and supremacy over all gods and rulers. - Can you name all the first nine plagues in order? Why did God send these plagues instead of releasing Israel immediately from Egypt?
The first nine plagues were: Water turned to blood, Frogs, Gnats, Flies, Livestock diseased, Boils, Hail, Locusts, Darkness. God sent these plagues to demonstrate His power and to show that He is greater than the gods of Egypt. By gradually increasing the severity of the plagues, He illustrated His supremacy and the futility of resisting His will. - Each plague was to show God was greater than Egypt’s gods. Read Exodus 9:16. What was God going to show the world with the plagues?
Exodus 9:16 reveals that God intended to show His power and to make His name known throughout the earth. The plagues were a demonstration that there is no one like God and that His power surpasses that of any other supposed deity. - What does it look like to have a hard heart today to God’s commands? Read Proverbs 28:14. Pray for a soft heart to see God’s greatness and believe and obey him.
A hard heart today can manifest as stubbornness, refusal to listen to God’s commands, and a lack of compassion or willingness to change. Proverbs 28:14 encourages maintaining a reverent fear of the Lord to avoid hardening one’s heart. This involves being open to God’s guidance, repenting for wrongdoing, and striving to live according to His will. Praying for a soft heart helps us remain receptive to God’s greatness and encourages obedience.
