  1. What was Pharaoh’s command and what did Moses’s mom do to keep him safe?
Pharaoh was very worried because the Israelites were growing in number, so he commanded that all Hebrew baby boys should be killed. Moses’s mom wanted to keep him safe, so she hid him for three months. When she couldn’t hide him anymore, she made a sturdy basket, like a tiny ark, and placed him in it, sending him down the Nile River, trusting God to protect him.
  2. How was Moses delivered? Where did he grow up?
Moses’s sister, Miriam, followed the basket down the river. The basket floated to Pharaoh’s daughter, who found the baby and decided to adopt him. Miriam suggested that a Hebrew woman could nurse the baby, and it ended up being Moses’s own mother. Later, Moses grew up in Pharaoh’s palace, with all the riches and knowledge of Egypt.
  3. What did Moses do that made him flee Egypt? Where did he go? Who did he deliver in Midian?
When Moses grew older, he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew and killed the Egyptian. Fearing Pharaoh’s wrath, he fled to Midian. There, he helped the daughters of the priest of Midian by driving away some shepherds who were bothering them, and he watered their flocks.
  4. How is the beginning of Jesus’s life similar to Moses?
Both Moses and Jesus faced dangers as babies from rulers who wanted them dead. Pharaoh wanted to kill all Hebrew boys, and King Herod wanted to kill Jesus and ordered all baby boys in Bethlehem to be killed. Both were protected and grew up to become deliverers of their people.
  5. What does Exodus 1-2 teach you about God?
These chapters teach us that God remembers His promises and hears the cries of His people. He raised Moses to deliver the Israelites from slavery, just as He sent Jesus to save us from our sins. God is always faithful and compassionate, rescuing His people from danger and suffering.
