  1. Why did Moses go to get a closer look at the bush? How does the bush show God doesn’t need anything to keep Him going?
Moses went to get a closer look at the bush because he saw it was on fire but not burning up, which was something very unusual and amazing. This bush shows that God doesn’t need anything to keep Him going because, unlike a normal fire that needs wood or gas to burn, this fire didn’t consume the bush at all. This illustrates that God is fully self-sufficient and doesn’t rely on anything else for His existence or power.
  2. What name did God reveal himself to Moses as? Read John 8:58. Who was Jesus claiming to be?
God revealed Himself to Moses as “I am who I am.” This name signifies that God is eternal and self-existent, not dependent on anything else. In John 8:58, Jesus says, “Before Abraham was born, I am!” This statement shows that Jesus was claiming to be the same eternal God who revealed Himself to Moses, emphasizing His divine nature and eternal existence.
  3. What were the signs God gave Moses for the people to believe? What signs can you think of that Jesus did to show who He was?
God gave Moses three signs to show the people so they would believe: turning his staff into a serpent and back, making his hand leprous and then healing it, and turning water from the Nile into blood. These signs demonstrated God’s power and presence with Moses. Jesus also performed many signs to show who He was, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, turning water into wine, and calming a storm. These miracles demonstrated His divine authority and power.
  4. How is Jesus’ deliverance greater than Moses’?
Jesus’ deliverance is greater than Moses’ because while Moses delivered the Israelites from physical slavery in Egypt, Jesus delivers people from the spiritual slavery of sin and death. Moses’ work was a foreshadowing of the greater work Jesus would do. Jesus defeated sin, Satan, and death, offering eternal life and freedom to all who believe in Him.
  5. Moses hid his face and was afraid to look upon God. Should we be afraid now, too? Read 2 Cor. 3:12-13, 18. Why or why not?
Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look upon God, recognizing God’s holiness and his own unworthiness. However, we should not be afraid in the same way because, through Jesus, we have a new and bold relationship with God. 2 Corinthians 3:12-13, 18 explains that we can approach God with confidence and boldness because the veil that once separated us from God has been removed in Christ. We are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, showing that we have a direct and intimate relationship with Him through Jesus.
