1. How did Moses fail and what is the question we should be asking as Moses gives leadership of Israel to Joshua?

Moses did not hold up God as Holy before Israel and he disobeyed God’s command to him. We should be asking is Joshua the promised messiah from Genesis? Will Joshua give the people rest in the promised land like Adam and Eve had during the 7th day in the Garden of Eden?

2. What are the commands and promises God gave to Joshua? How would this help Joshua do what God commanded?

– Go into the promised land.
– Everywhere you step I will give it to you.
– Be Strong and Courageous.
– I will be with you.
– I will never leave you or forsake you.
This would give Joshua so much hope that God would be with him and would never leave him. What a promise!

3. What are the borders of the promised land?

North: As far as the River Euphrates
South: The Brook of Egypt
East: The Jordan River
(except for the territory NE of the Jordan to Manasseh, Gad, & Reuben)
West: The Mediterranean Sea

4. What are the 2 things Joshua should be careful to do when he goes into the promised land?

– He should conquer the Canaanites
– He should be careful to obey the Law that God gave to Moses

5. What are the two commands that God told Joshua that he also tells us? How does this help make us strong and courageous?

– I will be with you
– I will never leave you or forsake you
God has promised that through the Holy Spirit, the presence of God is with us forever. Jesus said he would send the Holy Spirit and he did. If we have trusted and believed the Gospel, we can know that God is with us as we make more disciples of him.
