1) What does God tell Joshua to do to defeat Jericho? Does this make any sense?
He tells them to walk around the city one time for 6 days and then 7 times on the 7th day. Then, they were to blow rams horns and finally give a load shout on the 7th day. This doesn’t make any sense. This would have taken so much trust and faith in God.
2) What would the Ark of the Covenant and the shout on the 7th day show?
It would show that it was God who was fighting for Israel. If Israel was going to win, it was going to be because God was with them. The victory would belong to God.
3) What did God tell the army to do and not to do once they entered the city of Jericho?
First, God told them to go into Jericho and kill everyone in the city. Second, God told them to take all the silver gold and precious things and bring them into the temple instead of taking them for themselves. Third, anyone who was in Rahab’s house were to be saved. They were not to be touched.
4) What 3 things does the Victory over Jericho teach us about God?
It tells us that it takes faith to please God (Heb 11). It tells us that God can be trusted, even when what he says doesn’t make sense. His ways are higher than ours. It tells us that God’s judgment is always right against evil. God also loves to show mercy and grace and Rahab and anyone who was in her house are proof of that. Rahab’s house was against the city wall and it did not come down. It was only by God’s grace.
5) Who else was named Joshua in the New Testament? What did he have victory over?
Jeshua or Jesus. Jesus had victory over sin, Satan, and death. He is the one greater than Joshua. He is the one who had a bigger victory. He is the one who trusted in the Father completely and was victorious in his crucifixion, death, and resurrection. Praise God we have a greater savior in Jesus than even Joshua.
