What did the spies find when they spied out the Promised Land?

The spies found that the Promised Land was very good and abundant. They brought back grapes, pomegranates, and figs, showing that it was a land flowing with milk and honey. It was so fruitful that they named a place the Valley of Eshkol, meaning “cluster,” because of the large clusters of grapes they found.

What did Caleb and Joshua say versus what the other spies said? What did Caleb and Joshua have that the other spies and the people of Israel didn’t?

Caleb and Joshua said that God would help them conquer the land, expressing confidence in God’s promise and power. In contrast, the other ten spies reported fearfully about the strength of the inhabitants and the fortified cities, claiming they couldn’t defeat the Canaanites. Caleb and Joshua had faith and trust in God, while the other spies and the people of Israel lacked that faith.

What was God’s punishment for Israel not believing in him? Was this right of God to do?

God’s punishment was that the people of Israel would wander in the wilderness for 40 years, and none of the adults who doubted would enter the Promised Land. This was right for God to do because it was a consequence of their disbelief and rejection of His promises. It reflects God’s justice and the importance of faith in His plan.

What does this lesson teach us about Jesus?

This lesson teaches us that Jesus is the true leader who fulfills God’s promises. Just as Caleb and Joshua had faith in God’s plan, we are called to trust in Jesus. Jesus is better than Moses or Joshua because He provides complete forgiveness for our sins and grants us eternal rest in heaven, unlike the temporary rest of the Promised Land.

What does this lesson teach us about obedience to God?

This lesson emphasizes that obedience to God is crucial. The Israelites’ failure to trust God and their desire to return to Egypt led to their punishment. It teaches that genuine faith and obedience should come from love for God, not fear of consequences. Trusting in God’s promises leads to blessings, while disbelief results in missed opportunities and hardships.
