Malawi 2023 – July 27
Today was the last day of us helping Grace Bible Church (Kondi’s church) with VBS. After morning medications and lots of oranges for breakfast, we made our way over. Kids ran alongside the bus as we drove to the church again. We had around the same number that we had yesterday.
They were so excited that they sat down at the tent first thing this morning. We played some games with them before we started with music. Amy taught them how to say “I love Jesus, and Jesus loves me,” some boys played soccer with them, and there were lots of high fives and fist bumps going around.

Music and the skit went well this morning, but they all seemed more excited for recreation time. There were tug-of-war, races, and soccer stations as well as some little kids under the tent, one of which fell asleep on Kaela’s lap. They were so happy to play with each other and run around with us.
After this, we sang two more songs before the lesson. The lesson went well, and the kids kept moving their chairs closer to the front. Praise the Lord! Daniel did a great job.
We then sang our VBS songs with them for the last time. The moving of chairs became more intense as they made a circle around the music team. At one point, every music team member was holding a child while trying to dance. It was fun to dance and interact closely with the children like this.
We then split them up into three groups. From there, we handed out the bracelets that we had made. Some kids ended up with more than one bracelet while others had multiple. We had made ribbon bracelets for the young ones that love to put things in their mouths. A few team members headed out with scissors and ribbon to ensure every kid had the chance to receive a bracelet.

Snack today was a bread roll, some Sobo, and a lollipop. The team discovered today that they may only drink Sobo at times like Christmas, and it is rare that these kids eat bread in the form of rolls. It was awesome to watch them eat such special treats.
The team ate our lunch, played with the kids, loaded up chairs, and then it was time to leave. The children were swarming around us as we tried to board the bus. They all wanted a hug, high fives, fist bumps, and such. They were even getting high fives through the windows on the bus. As we left, we played VBS songs, and the children followed the bus as far as they could.
We went back to Newton’s house to relax before heading to Kondi’s to eat dinner. The food was delicious like yesterday. We did have to hurry to the conference, and we were still thirty minutes late. Luckily, they did not need our help in childcare, so we just got to sit in and listen to the message.

After some socializing, we headed back to Newton’s house where we ate watermelon and discussed tomorrow’s plans. We had a relaxing night with no bracelet or shield making. The boys were excited to find hot water in their shower. Thank the Lord.
We request you pray for our overall team health as we still have some congested individuals, that we would be a blessing at this conference, and that we could learn something from the conference as well. We are all saying that the hard part is over, and now we get to coast to the end, but it has been a great experience.
