Jimmy, Rachel, Albert, and I woke up and, at 6am, began the drive from Abuja to Jos. There are minimal traffic rules, if any, so commuting is more of a free-for-all with some general principles rather than set laws. We stopped for gas, but there were few gas stations and the fluctuating gas prices led to about a 45 minute wait in line. Once on the road again, we saw about 6 hours of gorgeous creation from the Lord. What a blessing Albert was, driving us through minimally-paved roads and crowds of locals!
We arrived in Jos around noon local time, and thanked Albert. He will pick Jimmy and I up and take us to the airport on our way home next week from Kubacha. Jimmy and I are staying at a guest inn next to Rachel's house through her organization. The room that Rachel booked for us was voided by the inn staff due to a large event in the area, but the Lord provided another room for us to stay in tonight. We will be able to stay in our originally-scheduled room again starting tomorrow. Once we got settled in, we helped Rachel unpack the items that were gifted to her by her parents and Global Outreach Advocacy team.
After a brief nap, Rachel drove us to a market in Jos, about fifteen minutes from where we will stay. It was very busy, busier than Rachel was expecting. We were the only white people that we saw in the city the whole day, which meant that we received plenty of attention. Many gave pleasant greetings, and we were very thankful to get to see such a vibrant part of the commerce in Jos. Rachel helped us pick out and purchase fabric from a vendor that we can have tailored to us. It will be both a culturally-significant outfit for us to wear to church in Kubachia next weekend, as well as a life-long souvenir for Jimmy and I.
We drove back to our camp and had Domino's pizza for dinner. This is the first american food-chain to open in Jos, and is causing quite the frenzy! Their pepperoni was noticeably hotter, perhaps adjusted to fit the cultural taste. Nigerians like spicier foods (or I just don't like spicy things, this is entirely possible...). We enjoyed a sweet time of fellowship in the evening. Rachel helped us hang a large mosquito net over the bed in me and Jimmy's room, and then we called it a night. We thank the Lord for His goodness that is so evident to us in a number of ways even yet. I hope we think and remind ourselves often of His goodness.
