The highlight of today was getting to travel out to the village home of one of the translators who work with Rachel. His name is Gimba. We were treated so well. He introduced us to his family and many of his friends. We met the village king. I had never knelt before the presence of a man before, but I was struck by the fact that this kind of reverence to human rulers has been the norm rather than the exception throughout human history.

On the way home there was a moment on the road when Rachel’s car wouldn’t start. We prayed and made some adjustments to the cables that were connected to the battery and the problem seemed to be resolved. It was a powerful reminder of our dependence upon the Lord. Oftentimes when at home in the West, I can deceive myself into thinking that I can resolve problems on my own without pleading with the Lord or receiving grace from Him. In Africa, I am quickly reduced to helplessness. If the car won’t start and we are hours away from those who can help us and the sun is going down, I’ll be honest. I don’t have a good solution!
