What riches of kindness He’s lavished on us! What a blessed Lord’s day we had.
Ten members of the team joined Kondi at Grace Bible Church (GBC). Jimmy preached on 2 Kings 6, where Elisha miraculously recovers the borrowed axehead from the Jordan. God sees and cares about our normal every day problems.
Gordy taught the Sunday school hour on the topic of what Christ has accomplished on the cross.
The other 8 team members joined Newton at Reformation Bible Church (RBC). Josh preached on 2 Kings 4—Elisha miraculously raises the woman’s son from the dead. It doesn’t matter what you have, it matters who has you. Whether you have little or much, your need is the same—faith.
Jon taught the Sunday school hour on the beauty of what Christ has accomplished on the cross.
Both churches enjoyed sweet fellowship and acoustic worship with Christ-centered teaching and singing in both English and Chichewa (the language spoken here). How beautiful to worship the same God on a different continent, in a different language.
After church, the RBC group walked the dusty red roads of the village neighborhood inviting children to VBS, which we will help host tomorrow and Tuesday.
Today was Independence Day here in Malawi. While there were no sparklers or exploding fireworks, Malawians celebrate with an address from the President and a big futbol game (real futbol—the kind played with feet). Malawi tied Botswana.
We did not watch the game as we were busy enjoying a Christian music festival and helping RBC hand out equipping resources.
We have already begun to build and strengthen relationships and have been encouraged by the faith of the believers here. We have also been uniting as team—singing together and discussing what God has been teaching us in the short time we’ve been here.
Please pray for us to get refreshing rest so we are ready to care well for the children the Lord will bring to VBS tomorrow. Pray, also, for flexibility. We can have anywhere from 50-500 children. May God be glorified.
Zikoma!
